While all septic tank drain fields require regular inspection you can save a lot of money by digging one yourself. You will want to choose a site that is away from the house but close to the tank. Drain field replacement can cost anywhere from 2 000 to 10 000. There should be at least 100 feet of drain field for a 1 000 gallon septic tank.

Where the tube passes by the downspout from the gutter we installed a y fitting and drained the roof water from the gutter system directly into the main drainage line.
